PLUS Charities is currently raising funds for getting FM radio station KMMK on the air and once on the air, improving our FM signal strength.
PLUS stands for Pro-Life Unity and Support, a 501(c )(3) not for profit, publicly funded charitable organization in the state of Iowa.

PLUS intends to promote right living as defined by the Magisterial Teaching of the Catholic Church.  KMMK is soon to be on the air at 88.7 MHz FM NCE (Non Commercial Educational), like public radio, on the low side of the FM band.  And like public radio, it is listener supported.
More on that later…

The station, KMMK, is named after Saint Maximilian Mary Kolbe (KMMK), a Conventual Franciscan.

The CEO presentation (link above) was preceded by the four minute video below.  Fr. Kolbe was a prisoner at Auschwitz, Poland, in WWII.  He gave his life in place of a father of a family sentenced to die by starvation.  St. Maximilian died on August 14, 1941, his Feast Day.   Father Kolbe lived the Gospel message of, “Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one’s life for a friend” (JN 15:13).  Kolbe’s gestures of self-sacrifice throughout his imprisonment, left a distinct impression on the concentration camp.  Life was changed for the better, even in that horrible place.

St Maximilian was a theologian who developed unique and wonderful teachings on Mary, whom he called “The Immaculata.”  He ran a printing press which promoted consecration to Mary as did his predecessor, St. Luis DeMontfort.  But Fr. Kolbe, who lived from 1894 to 1938, had the advantage of the apparitions of Mary at Lourdes, France, and Fatima, Portugal, as well as the Dogmatic declaration of Mary as the Immaculate Conception by Pope Pius IX December 8, 1854, all after DeMontfort’s time.  In other words the teachings of the Church and events gave Kolbe an improved vantage point.

Kolbe’s City of Mary printing press operation, Niepokalanow, near Warsaw in Poland, issued 1 million copies per month of a magazine dedicated to Mary, the Knight of the Immaculata, with as many as 800 Franciscan friars and priests.  Besides being the patron saint of amateur radio, he is also a patron saint of media.

Although the station is named after St. Maximilian Kolbe, in reading his newsletters, quotes and personal letters,
HE WOULD NOT WANT THE STATION NAMED AFTER HIM!

For him, life was consecration to The Immaculata.  And the Immaculata, the Blessed, Virgin Mary is bringing souls to her dearly beloved Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ.

KMMK is an apostolate, not a ministry, i.e., specifically Church-related.  Getting people to have devotion to Mary, The Immaculata, is an “apostolate within an apostolate” for KMMK.
